Exchange Week in Madrid

Madrid and Toledo December 2015 from 6th to 13th

Belgium, Croatia, France, Italy, Poland, Greece

All week activities were focused on learning about food waste issue and how to tackle this problem, throughout lectures, conferences, visits and workshop during the whole week.

We travelled to Toledo to a nice rural estate that allowed us to have more outdoor activities and also learn more about solar cooking and related to IAAS world year projects, how to make proper seed bomb.

After Trade Fair and back in Madrid, we had also the chance to visit in Madrid different urban orchards, also the Centre for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (CBGP), and university greenhouses that gave us different point of view in this matter.

The Food Bank of Madrid offered us the opportunity to visit them, and they explained more about logistics in food banks associations.

Furthermore, the participants, who came from Croatia, Greece, Italy, France, Poland and Belgium, attended to various workshops were useful tools and tips were given to reduce food waste at a domestic level. Also an interesting recycling workshop was carried out with mushroom self-cultivation, vertical garden and green-house made out of plastic bottles.

At the end of the week and keeping IAAS Spain new tradition, we organized Tapas workshop, this time, aiming cero food waste by using all the spare food possible that was collected during this week.

There were also interesting guided tours around the marvellous city of Madrid and nice good bye dinner at the end of the event.
